A Local’s Short List
One of the quiet pleasures of the Eastern Shore is how well you can eat here without ever fighting a crowd. When guests ask where we send our own family, the list is short and honest.
For a proper night out, we point people to Jesse’s in nearby Magnolia Springs — the kind of place where the room, the service, and the plate all agree with each other. Pearl in Fairhope is smaller and more inventive, the work of a classically trained chef with a point of view. If you want farm-to-table that actually means it, The Hope Farm does it beautifully. And for something on the water, Tin Top lets you sit at the bar and watch the oysters get shucked before they reach you.
When the mood is more relaxed, there’s Moe’s, tucked back in the woods and worth finding, plus a whole world of casual Bay favorites — from Panini Pete’s downtown to Southwood Kitchen over in Daphne. Half the fun is that most of it is fifteen minutes or less from the house.
Come hungry. We’ll happily point you toward the right table for the night you have in mind.
